Question of the Day - 18 March 2007

Q:
I visit Las Vegas at least twice a year, staying most of the time at the MGM Grand. I've heard a lot about the private entrance for the rich and famous, but have never been able to locate where this entrance is. Do these guests have a separate elevator to the casino floor?
A:

The question is a little unclear, but we're assuming that you're referring to the entrance to the Mansion at MGM Grand.

The Mansion at the MGM Grand is a separate $200 million hotel-in-a-hotel that opened in May 1999 and achieved a new level of exclusivity when it came to Las Vegas accommodating its whales. It has 29 suites, from one-bedrooms up to a combination of a couple of two- to four-bedroom garden villas into one six-bedroom megavilla. The Mansion has 150 employees, including a complement of butlers who speak upwards of 20 languages among them, as well as villa, floral, maintenance, landscape, and water-quality teams. Indoor and outdoor pools, private gardens, fully stocked pantries, personal concierge and chef services, a community screening room, private meeting rooms -- anything is possible at the Mansion.

The entrance is quite hidden at the back of the high-limit pit. First locate the Starbucks, off to one side of the main casino. From there, walk past the Studio Café, then the Grand Wok and Nob Hill restaurants, and enter the high-roller room. Pass through the outer room and into an inner room, then to the back of the inner room and take a right down a long hallway.

At the back of the hallway, you come to a security desk where a suited security guard will want you to state your business. You can just tell him that you wanted to see the entrance to the Mansion. If you’ve got a little chutzpah, ask him to open the big doors to give you a look at the lobby and a peek into the lifestyles of the rich in Vegas.
