Question of the Day - 20 March 2007

Q:
Who is going to be the next headliner at Caesars when Celine Dion leaves?
A:

It seems rumors have been circulating about who'd replace Celine Dion since before the singer even confirmed that 2007 would be the final year of her Las Vegas soujourn. For some time, the word on the street was that the Canadian chanteuse's shoes would be filled by three divas in rotation, namely Cher, Bette Midler, and Diana Ross -- who would alternate with Sir Elton's Red Piano run, which has been extended by a year.

While the notoriously difficult ex-Supreme was spotted in town having talks with Caesars last year, apparently the negotiations broke down irreparably and there's been no further mention of her performing here since late 2006. The Divine Miss M, however, is apparently still interested, in spite of concerns over the ailment known as "Vegas Throat," which can affect singers' vocal cords in this most arid of climates, and has been spotted at both Celine's and Elton's shows in recent months, not to mention several Cirque performances.

Meanwhile, Cher's name remains the one most consistently mentioned in relation to the Colosseum showroom: Although the colorful singer had only just completed her three-year "farewell" tour, she was apparently tempted out of retirment by a deal rumored to be worth $60 million and seems a perfect fit for Las Vegas.

We'll keep you posted as firmer announcements are made.

Update 19 March 2007
STOP PRESS! We've just learned that Bette Midler signed with Caesars last week, although as yet no details of the deal have been released nor when her performances might commence.
