Question of the Day - 21 March 2007

Q:
I understand that Trump Tower will be the most expensive address in Las Vegas when it opens. How "special" will it be to live in Trump Tower?
A:

The Trump International Hotel and Tower is touted as being the "crown jewel of the Las Vegas Strip -- a true showpiece beyond anything ever created in Las Vegas."

At between $1,000 and $1,200 a square foot to own a piece of it, it ought to be. And a lot of rich people think it will be: The 1,282 units in the $400 million 64-story 24-carat-gold-encased tower were sold out within a few weeks of the project's announcement in 2004 on the hit TV show "The Apprentice" (that's the power of a viewing audience of 24 million).

Ground was broken on Tuesday July 12, 2005, in a sizzling (thermally speaking) ceremony.

Called "a slice of Manhattan swank," Trump Tower will feature white-gloved doormen and 24-hour concierge and security services; an ultra-luxurious spa, fitness center, and salon; a heated outdoor pool and bar; and a business center. There will be restaurants, though the specifics have yet to be announced.

The units themselves consist of 880 studio and 352 one-bedroom suites, plus 50 deluxe one-, two-, and three-bedroom penthouses on the upper five floors. The smaller suites range in size from 636 square feet to 1,057 square feet; some units can be combined to form 1,693-square-foot suites. The penthouses go from 3,000 to 10,000 square feet. Prices started in the $600,000s and have gone up to the $7 millions.

Amenities include floor-to-ceiling picture windows; European-style kitchens with Wolf, Bosch, Dacor, and Sub-Zero appliances; Italian marble floors in the entries and baths and marble counters, plus spa tubs, in the master baths. One interesting touch is the "mirror TV" in the master bath: You can watch TV or a video in the mirror while you shave or apply your makeup.

Trump Tower is located on a 3.5-acre site in the parking lot of the New Frontier, within easy walking distance of the Fashion Show Mall, Wynn Las Vegas, and the Venetian, plus the center Strip's Mirage, Caesars Palace, and Bellagio. The tower is scheduled to open for New Year's Eve this year.
