Yes, you read correctly. It's a recent development and of the 17 cab companies serving the Las Vegas Strip, only two currently offer the convenience of accepting credit cards as well as cash. Although the new scheme is still officially in the trial stage, the Las Vegas Taxicab Authority recently revealed that the new service is a hit with customers, so we're guessing the number of companies and cabs involved may well increase over time.
For now, A-Cab, which covers the west side of the I-15, and Desert Cab Companies (city-wide) are the only two companies participating and each has only a handful of taxis in their fleet that are capable of taking credit cards, so you must remember to specifically request a credit card cab when you're booking and be prepared for a longer-than-average wait time (which is already commonly 45 minutes, or at least it was the last few times we booked a cab). There's no minimum charge (aside from the standard $3.20 entry fee and $2 per mile).
If you'd like to book one of these special cabs, A-Cab can be reached at 702/369-5686 and Desert Cab at 702/386-9102.
