For those who don't know, Segways are those funny looking two-wheeled "personal transport systems" that look like some kind of cross between a scooter and a hobby horse. It's certainly an alternative way to get around (actually, looks pretty fun) and there are three different companies currently offering Segway tours in the Las Vegas area.
A company called Scenic Segways offers the two-hour guided tours around the foothills of Lake Las Vegas Resort that you refer to. It's $96 per person and includes some training from your tour host, who then provides you with live narration via a headset. There are two tours daily at 8 am and 5 pm, and reservations are required. Note that you must be 12 years and over and weigh 250 lbs or less to take part. There's a 10% discount for group bookings of five or more (max. eight guests per tour). Call 435/674-7700 or 1-888-Go-Segway for more details, or visit the Web site at www.scenicsegways.com.
Another option is with Segway Las Vegas, a company offering 90-minute guided tours of the Strip for $65 per person, also with a maximum of eight people per tour. The tour starts at the former Elvis-o-Rama museum and takes you, via some of the quieter backways and side streets, to the Mirage, TI, Planet Hollywood, Bally's, and Paris. The Segways are also available for private rental for $25 per hour or $125 for a full 24 hours. Sounds like an interesting way to save your legs on that punishing trek from casino to casino. But can you valet park a Segway, we wondered? Apparently yes, you can: Just ask the bell desk at whichever property you're visiting, and they'll take care of it for you. What's more, if you've got a 24-hour rental, you can also take it up to your room and charge it overnight. Call 702/877-9300 for more info.
And last but not least, You Can!! Segway covers the downtown area, with a two-hour downtown historical tour for $75.50 or a Huntridge Loop option for $55. They also offer custom tours. Call 702/338-8013 for more details or visit www.lasvegassegway.com.
What we want to know is when someone will start offering this service in the Fashion Show Mall -- those dimensions are inhumane!
