Question of the Day - 08 November 2007

Q:
I would like to purchase some fabric to be able to make some drapes or curtains that have a Vegas-theme print on them. Who has something like this?
A:

It's been awhile since we tackled one of the more off-the-wall questions (partly as, sadly, we don't seem to get as many quirky ones these days, although we really like to answer them). You, however, are in luck: Not only are we answering your question, but we've found a veritable smorgasbord of funky fabrics for you to choose from, either available in Las Vegas or from various on-line sources. Whether you want Betty Boop bingo or poker-playing pooches, roulette wheels on your drapes or dice on your valances, we've got you covered.

LAS VEGAS OPTIONS

  • Jo-Ann, the fabric and craft store, has several locations in Las Vegas and their "novelty" section tends to feature the kind of thing you're looking for, including a design featuring poker chips and another that includes poker, roulette, and horse racing. Locations include 540 N. Nellis Blvd., 2160 N. Rainbow Blvd., and 4628 W. Sahara Ave.
  • Heddy's Fabrics at 5411 W. Charleston Blvd. (702/870-3754) has a whole section dedicated to Vegas-themed prints. You can check out their catalog on-line by clicking here.
  • Fabric Boutique, located at 4465 W. Charleston (702/878-0068), has designs that feature cards, chips, and the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign.
  • Hancock Fabrics at 3387 S. Jones Blvd. (702/871-7705) and 1971 N. Decatur (702/871-5435) has a print with tumbling dice. Their online store also has Betty Boop in Vegas fleece fabric, the famous poker-playing dogs in both cotton and fleece, cotton prints featuring poker and backgammon, dice and cards, and Texas Hold'em (many of which are currently on sale). They also have NFL and MLB fabrics for every team we could think of.
  • OTHER SOURCES

  • J&O Fabric Center in New Jersey (9401 Rt. 130, Pennsauken, 856/663-2121) has a whole bunch of Las Vegas-themed fabrics, including cards, dice, and Betty Boop, bingo, and high-roller themes, to name a few (see below).
  • The Sacred Chest specializes in tapestry/upholstery fabrics, in case you want to extend the theme to pillows, chairs, or the sofa. Their range includes a "Fabulous Las Vegas" option and the omnipresent poker dogs, plus one featuring pool balls and another various sports. Check them out here.
  • Last but by no means least, eBay is another treasure trove of gambling and Vegas-themed fabrics, although often the vendor only has a couple of yards or so available. We've included a collage of some of the designs for sale when we checked it out, just to give you an idea of what you might find up for auction.
