The rumor is absolutely true. Sort of.
Bob now teaches free video poker classes at the El Cortez on Wednesday mornings beginning at 10 am. It's now the middle of the first semester, which will end March 12. Everyone is welcome, provided they're at least 21 and either have or are willing to obtain a player's card. There will probably be more semesters once the current one ends, but as we go to press no firm commitment has been made by El Cortez management on this. Go to bobdancer.com/seminars.html for the schedule.
There have been a variety of Bob Dancer video poker machines. The games on them have varied, but what they all have in common is they're found only at casinos where Bob is currently teaching. Once a casino decides that they no longer wish to offer free classes, the machines come down.
"Bob Dancer Approved" was the name found on machines at Silverton, which included the games taught in the Dancer classes. "Dancer's Top Picks" was the name the Fiesta used for games with a similar mix on them when he taught at the two Fiestas.
El Cortez has a set of "Bob Dancer Recommended" machines, currently for quarters only, that include 9/6 Jacks or Better, 10/7 Double Bonus, 9/5 Super Double Bonus, 9/7 Triple Double Bonus, 16/11 Double Deuces, NSU Deuces Wild, 9/4/4 Deuces Bonus, and 20/7/5 Joker Wild. It's possible more games will be added in the future as the curriculum for the classes increases and it's likely that more denominations will be added. The machines are in the extreme southwest corner of the casino, very near the intersection of Fremont and 6th streets.
