As we reported in the January and December issues of the Las Vegas Advisor, "Wynn Las Vegas is no longer comping drinks for video poker play at its bars, regardless of the level of action."
This is for all drinks at one of the two Wynn bars with bartop video poker games, namely the high-end B Bar.
Drinks are still comped for VP play at the bar in the sports book. But as we wrote in LVA, "Even at the sports book bar, this place is anything but loose with its comps. The Wynntenders watch closely that you’re pushing buttons and we witnessed one couple playing machine-blackjack at $5 per hand being handed a bill after ordering drinks. What’s more, the sports bar has no quarter machines, making this the only Las Vegas casino we’ve ever known of to have no bar-based drink-comp opportunities under the dollar level of play."
We can’t call this a trend. It’s more of an ongoing experiment, which has mostly failed in the past. The MGM Grand tried it for a while back in the mid-‘90s. Mandalay Bay tried it. But to date, it has never lasted. Again, as we wrote, "Players have never stood for it. Why should they, when they can get comped while playing at any other bar in town? Wynn Las Vegas is stubborn about its tradition-busting stances, however (such as its dealer/supervisor toke splitting), so this one might stick. But given that you have a few hundred alternatives to choose from, it shouldn’t crimp your style too much."
