Question of the Day - 28 February 2008

Q:
We will be traveling to Las Vegas next month. Are there any Web sites that tell you what the current jackpots are for various slot machines?
A:

Look no further! Well, you have to go to our "Play" section, wherein lies all kinds of useful data about the gambling side of Las Vegas, from poker room and tournament listings to free gaming classes, and from non-smoking casino areas to where to find the best current video poker games.

Amongst the wealth of useful information in there (which is about to expand -- watch that space!), you'll find a section called "Current Megajackpot Levels," which contains exactly what it says, namely simulated meters for all of IGT's (the biggest provider of MegaJackpots) games, including Jeopardy, Family Feud (slots and video slots), I Love Lucy, Elvis slots, Wheel of Fortune (multiple denominations), Money Madness, Diamond Cinema video slots, TV Hits, Cash & Ball, and, of course, Megabucks (dollars and pennies).

Unfortunately, the other slot manufacturers with linked progressive games, including Aristocrat and Bally Technologies, don't provide the same service, either to us or anyone else that we know of.

Update 28 February 2008
Many thanks to the reader who pointed us to the following page on Bally's site, where they are now displaying current jackpot levels and where to find the games. It's not quite as sophisticated as IGT's setup (hadn't been updated since two days ago, as far as we could tell), but still, much better than nothing. Here's the link.
