Question of the Day - 05 April 2008

Q:
Which casinos in Las Vegas (the Strip and downtown) still accept coins?
A:

Although coins and tokens were dirty and cumbersome, we get frequent inquiries from readers who yearn for a return to the days of coin-in slots and the plastic buckets to carry your winnings that went with them. It's certainly not as exciting to print out a little slip of paper as it was to hear the cascade of quarters as your winnings were spewed out of the machine, and it was handy knowing you could pick up some hand wipes from the cage anytime you wanted to freshen up the old mitts, and coins and tokens didn't come with expiration dates. Still, on balance we think we prefer the new system and evidently the casinos do too.

Coin-in slots are undoubtedly a dying breed. The only two casino locations we found on the Strip were Circus Circus, which has some, and Slots-A-Fun next door, which is all coin-in still. Even downtown, the pickin's are pretty slim, with Binion's coin-in days numbered (the new owner has vowed to replace their remaining coin-in machines, probably by the end of this summer).

For now, however, click this link for a table that illustrates the casinos we know of where you can still take pleasure in the chink chink of your winnings (in various denominations) hitting that metal tray. Enjoy it while you can.
