Question of the Day - 01 August 2008

Q:
What casinos in the Las Vegas area have the most slot/video poker machines?
A:

Strangely enough, it's almost two years to the day since we last answered almost exactly the same question from another reader (7/26/2006, to be precise). As then, we turned to the Nevada State Gaming Control Board's Unrestricted Count Report which, on a regular basis, chronicles in detail who has what in terms of table games and slots (including how many of each denomination).

Their most recent statistics showed the picture on March 31, 2008, so things have doubtless fluctuated a little in the interim, since slots are continually added, taken away, and generally moved around. But this is accurate, give or take a few, and shows that there’s been a little jostling for poll position since last time around (2006 figures are shown in parentheses):

  • Total number of slots in Strip casinos: 50,355 (43,976)
  • Total number of slots downtown: 12,034 (12,806)
  • Total number of slots in principal off-Strip properties, excluding downtown (figures available are for N. Las Vegas and Boulder Strip combined): 68,043 (45,569)
  • Top three properties on the Strip for most slots: MGM Grand: 2,550 (2,660); Bellagio: 2,440 (2,450); Bally’s: 2,350 (2,713)
  • Top three off-Strip properties for most slots: Sam's Town: 3,030 (3,135); Orleans & Santa Fe Station: 3,025 (3,110 was previous figure for the Orleans, while Santa Fe was not in the top three last time): Boulder Station: 2,925 (3,000)

So, there you have it. Next!
