Question of the Day - 31 August 2008

Q:
Quarks Bar at the Star Trek Experience is the only place to get the Warp Core Breach cocktail and if you can get them to divulge the recipe I would greatly appreciate it.
A:

Happy to oblige.

The Warp Core Breach was an effervescing beverage that overflowed with a wizardly fog and was served in a large bowl in Quark's on "Deep Space 9."

The only location on Earth that we're aware of it being served is Quark's Bar in Star Trek: The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton, which closes its doors tomorrow, so if you haven't yet tried one, you'd better get down there quick.

Alternatively, you can try making your own at home, thanks to the recipe kindly supplied by the bar. Designed to be consumed by two or more people, the drink consists of 10 ounces of five different flavored rums in roughly equal proportions. Use a little more of the lemon-and-lime rum, a little less of the dark rum and spice rum, and equal measures of raspberry rum and 151. Add to that a splash of Razzmatazz raspberry liqueur (you can probably substitute Chambord, if that's what you have to hand) and some mixed fruit juices.

Then, for the pièce de résistance, add a few chips of dry ice to create the cascading smoke effect. Note: As dry ice is colder than -100° Fahrenheit, it can cause severe skin damage if handled, so be sure to use some tongs. Serve in a large bowl with long straws.

We understand that a public sale/auction will be held sometime after Sept. 1, when everything that hasn't already been looted from the attraction will be up for grabs. The Warp Core Breach bowls will apparently be selling for around $75 each, so for anyone other than diehard fans, a fishbowl would probably suffice (remove the fish first).

Update 01 September 2008
"Update to your answer to the question about the Star Trek Warp Core Breach drink. I got the recipe direct from one of the bar tenders back in 2005 and I've been making them ever since for parties. Here's the recipe he gave me: 1 oz. each of Bacardi Limon, Select, 151, and Spice; 4 oz. each Bacardi Light, Razzmatazz liqueur; add 2 1/2 bottles Sobe power, and ice."
