The original question on August 10 asked questions like, "What is a host's typical workday like, how do they make their money, and why does it seem like so many move from casino to casino?"
We explained in that answer that it's simply too big a topic to cover, even to sum up, in the space of a QoD, then suggested that all was answered in the book Whale Hunt in the Desert. It was a promo for one of our books, but identifying that book as the best source on this subject was also the best answer available.
After getting the response that's shown in today's question (and a couple others), we thought about it and realized that e-book technology allows us to make a whole chapter of a book easily available to read. And since Chapter 1 of Whale Hunt answers most of the original question, we decided to post it as the answer.
"All in a Night's Work" sets up the book by following its subject, superhost Steve Cyr, on his rounds on one random weekend night. In these 15 pages, author Deke Castleman provides as good a look as you can get at the duties of a host at a major casino. (If you want more, you really will have to buy the book, which is available via the above links in both hard-cover and e-book formats.)
