Question of the Day - 01 October 2008

Q:
If someone wins a Megajackpot such as the Wheel of Fortune or Megabucks, do they have to go public with this or can they remain anonymous?
A:

Either way.

You can tell the world that your bank account has suddenly grown by millions of dollars -- and the casino and slot machine company will love you for the publicity. Or you can keep the news between you and them (and the IRS).

We ran a poll on this question in May. We received 2,909 votes, of which the overwhemlming majority of respondents voted "No" -- against revealing their identities. Just over 2,000 people said they'd refuse, while 904 didn't mind giving it up.
