Sorry. It's a shocker, but it's true. The last seating was October 5. We haven't seen any explanation (and we look for stuff like this), so all we can say is that nothing lasts forever.
Your question did inspire us to spend some time searching the archives for its history.
We first reviewed the Circus Circus Steak House Sunday champagne brunch in February 1996. At the time, we wrote, "The Steak House at Circus Circus has debuted Las Vegas' newest high-end champagne brunch. Served Sundays from 10 am to 2 pm for $24.95, the brunch has a fair appetizer line-up of oysters, clams, crab claws, lox, hearts of palm, artichokes, and other salads, and several entrées are available buffet style. You may also order, at no additional charge, from a menu that includes top-grade steaks (which the room is known for) and 'specialty egg creations' like Benedict, Sardou (artichoke and spinach), or Oscar (crab legs and asparagus). A hint: Get a half-order of eggs to save room for other tastings. On request, a very cool after-dinner coffee selection (chocolate macadamia, French vanilla, or regular) is delivered with a tray of sweet fixin's like chocolate flakes and whipped cream. The champagne accompanying brunch is Chateau St. Michele.
"Despite its unique features, the brunch doesn't match up to the other comparably priced Sunday spread at the Tropicana ($22). Nor is the experience as dynamic, possibly due to the dark and subdued restaurant setting. It's a good effort overall, but the Trop's is not only better, it's also a few dollars less."
Though our response was somewhat lukewarm to start, two and a half years later in July 1998 we mentioned the brunch in the context of its popularity, reporting that it was now restricting reservations to three seatings, a policy that it continued till it closed last month. One other interesting development was that at that time, the price was $17.95; it'd gone down by $7.
Three years later, in November 2001, the price was raised back to $24.95.
We reviewed the brunch in November 2004, in which we called it "venerable" and "probably Las Vegas’ best-value Sunday brunch."
"The cold-seafood selection includes fresh shrimp, oysters, and crab claws, plus an assortment of deli-style fish. There are omelet, pancake, and carving stations, along with other brunch entrées. Included in the price is your choice of steak, lamb chops, or specialty egg dishes prepared in the kitchen and delivered tableside. The champagne is Domain St. Michelle and you’ll never eat at another brunch where your glass gets filled more often. ... The Steak House Brunch is a winner on all levels." The price at that time remained $24.95.
In August 2006, we reported that the price had risen to $32.95.
And by the time it closed, the price had gone up one more time, to $34.95.
