Question of the Day - 22 January 2009

Q:
Considering they are in every filling station, 24-hour convenience store, and mom & pop restaurant, as well as casinos ... just how many video poker machines would you estimate were in Las Vegas/Clark County?
A:

A timely question, since only last week we needed this piece of information for our own purposes and put the word out to our contacts in the slot cosmos, who kindly obliged and got back to us with the following figures:

  • First to respond was Bally Technologies, whose market-research analyst revealed that Las Vegas has about 100,000 slots in total, of which approximately 30% are video poker machines. Nevada as a whole has about 200,000 slots, to which the same percentage breakdown applies.
  • This pretty much agrees with the data we subsequently received from IGT. The most comprehensive count they had available was last year's, when there were 46,025 video poker/multigame machines in southern Nevada.

So, now you know. And so do we!
