We get this question a lot. The answer, unfortunately, is no, it isn’t possible to get a Nevada driver’s license without completely relinquishing the license from your home state.
However, there is a "Seasonal Resident ID Card" available that will, in most cases, probably qualify a person to obtain the same locals’ discounts that those with a Nevada driver’s license can get.
The procedure to obtain one of these Seasonal Resident IDs is a little complicated. You must appear at a Nevada DMV office with the following documents in tow: current driver’s license (from whatever state), birth certificate, Social Security card, and, if applicable, a marriage certificate to validate any post-marital name changes.
You fill out the regular Nevada driver’s license application, except you check the box next to "Seasonal ID Card." Your picture is taken and your card is mailed to your out-of-state address in two weeks. (Since the card is mailed to the out-of-state address, obviously it won’t be very helpful for this trip to Las Vegas.)
The Seasonal ID Card must be renewed every 4 years for $12.

Here are some details from readers who've been through the Seasonal Resident ID card experience -- and we're much obliged to these readers for their insights:
"First, I have such an ID and the card is mailed to the Nevada address. Second, a passport, proof of Nevada residency (such as a phone bill), and a Social Securiy card are sufficient. However, you
must have an original SS card or they will send you packing -- I know from experience. Third, you must indicate that you spend more than 30 consecutive days in Nevada each year. It's best to stretch this so that you do not get "questioned" by the DMV staff. Finally, the ID card actually expires on your birthday short of 4 years the first time you renew. This is important for a husband and wife who most likely were not born on the same day. Each ID has to be separately renewed and if you miss the renewal date, you must start the process all over again, so watch your mail carefully."
"We live in Las Vegas during the winter for 5 months and in New York during the rest of the year. We were able to obtain a Seasonal ID with only our NY driver's license and a passport. It was mailed to our Las Vegas address."
"My husband and I got a Nevada seasonal ID card last year. It wasn't mailed to any address. We got it right after the picture was printed on the computer."
