Q:
I subscribed to What's On magazine back on March 3, 2009. I have received only one magazine in seven weeks. When I call them, they always promise me they'll send the next issue to me the next day, but I never receive them. My question is, are they going under due to the economy?
A:
We forwarded your query to What's On editor Martin Stein. However, Stein was in the process of being laid off; he re-forwarded your question to his CEO, David Peeler. Peeler didn't respond after several days, so we contacted Kellogg Media Group Vice President Andrea Collier. She denied that What's On is going under and asked for the name of this subscriber, which we didn't supply. So Collier suggested that this subscriber call What's On to straighten out the subscription problem.
This question's submitter -- and anyone else having a problem getting a subscription to What's On fulfilled -- should call Andrea Collier at 702/891-8811.
As evidence of What's On's health, Collier added that What's On has launched another publication in Atlantic City and just moved into a "beautiful building" at 6835 S. Eastern Avenue.
Update 15 June 2009
Here, readers weigh in with a similar situation with different magazines:
"In relation to your response regarding What's On magazine, I have had similar issues with Casino Player and Strictly Slots magazines. After the death of their publisher last August, they have been 1.5 months late with every issue since. They are helpful and responsive when I email their current staff (Maureen Robertson, Rob Wiser), but nothing has changed in 9 months. As anyone who subscribes to these magazines knows, certain information in such publications is time dependent, so information on May activities received in mid-June is really old information. Can you get to the bottom of this? I imagine many of those to read LVA also subscribe to these two publications."
"Glad to read someone else has asked you to look into the Casino Player magazine's lateness. I too have contacted them and found them helpful. But when I mentioned to them about the time sensitive material being outdated by the time we receive our magazine the only answer I received was, 'We're trying.' I was sympathetic to the untimely death last year, but they really need to get going now."
"More on magazines... I subscribe to Bluff and Vegas magazines. Bluff is always delivered late & Vegas Magazine has noticeably downsized, changed its format and no longer comes out "monthly"... Print media is in a freefall."
"I too have contacted Casino Player numerous time (at least 6) to find out when they will be putting coupons online, since that is what they are replacing the coupon book with. I have been told next week or in 2 weeks since January. I won't be renewing until they get staightened out. Looks like they have no direction or people who know what's going on."
