A:
Very few hotels offer free wi-fi access in their rooms, with most charging something in the region of $8.95 (Cannery) to $13.99 (Wynn/Encore) per day for the in-room privilege. In the case of some properties, like Station Casinos, it's included in the "resort fee" (Aliante Station: $14.95/day; Boulder Station: $10.85/day; Green Valley Ranch: $27:49/day).
The only hotels that offer genuinely free wi-fi access tend to be those more oriented toward conventioneers than tourists, including the Best Western, Double Tree, Super 8, Residence Inn, and Fairfield Inn chains. The Royal Resort offers the first 30 minutes Wi-Fi access for free, with a daily rate thereafter. Click here for our complete list of hotels, with phone numbers and website links.
Assuming you have your laptop with you, however, there are all kinds of options around town for free Wi-Fi connectivity, from sports bars to hookah lounges, coffee shops to pools. You can check out the complete list right here (and email us if you've found one that we don't know about).
Update 29 June 2009
So, we got feedback from numerous people throughout the day, suggesting other places that have free Wi-Fi access, all of which we have now investigated. The results don't change our list much at all, other than to confirm that yes, Seattle's Best in the Orleans does indeed have 24 hour free access and that Bleu Gourmet closed recently (still offers catering service, but no more restaurant/wine shop). The Elysium Cafe remains a question mark for now -- we know they moved from W. Sahara to W. Charleston, but have yet to determine if the latter venue has also closed. Thanks for the heads-up on those two. All the others turned out to be false leads (we don't consider a $10 resort fee "free access"!). What's probably the case is that you were able to hook into someone else's nearby Wi-Fi account (whether a property within the hotel or else somewhere closeby outside), which is cool, but we wouldn't want to offer this to people as a definite option when in reality, it's probably just a coincidence and you happened to get lucky. Thanks all the same!
Thanks for the feedback on additional free Wi-Fi hotspots -- we're going to check out all your suggestions and then add the ones that are truly free. Watch this space!
