Question of the Day - 07 August 2009

Q:
While I was in Vegas the week of 7/12, Mermaids and La Bayou were closed. What happened? Will they reopen or are they permanently defunct due to $$$ woes? I sure missed my semi-annual La Bayou Yard!
A:

Fear not! Mermaids and La Bayou are both still open for business. We're guessing you must have been in their vicinity either early or late, since they're the only two casinos of this size in Las Vegas that aren't open 24/7. The hours are 9 a.m. until 1 a.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m.-2 a.m. on the weekend (with last orders 15 minutes before they close). Neither establishment offers table games, just slots, video poker, and video keno.

If you're not familiar with these two sister establishments, owned by Steve Burnstine, who's also the proprietor of the Topless Girls of Glitter Gulch strip club (about which our readers have mixed opinions), their principal claims to fame are the deep-fried Twinkies and Oreo’s available at Mermaids, the oversized (52 ounce) cocktails, free mardi gras beads, and some of the few remaining coin-in slots in town (no TITO machines at either property).
