At 6:14 a.m. on the morning of Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, two men dressed from head to toe in dark clothing, including wearing black motorcycle helmets, and armed with handguns, robbed the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook for an undisclosed six-figure sum in cash and casino chips, which one source put at $570,000. They fled in a silver Dodge Durango, which had been stolen, that was driven by an unknown third party. Police say the suspects drove to a nearby spot where they switched vehicles to a dark-colored four-door hatchback, possibly a Toyota Matrix.
According to eye witnesses, the whole incident went down in less than a minute. "This in't your average street robbery," commented Metro spokesman Lt. Clint Nichols at the time, describing the job as definitely the work of professionals. "It was six in the morning, so there wasn't a whole lot of people in there when they came in and did the robbery. They were in and out so quick I don't think many patrons even realized it. I would asses it as well planned. Obviously there was thought put into it and so far it was one of the better ones I've seen."
Witnesses described the suspects as 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7 weighing 140 to 160 pounds. Some obscure photographs and surveillance footage of the robbers was released and a $25,000 reward offered for information leading to their arrest. But so far, the bounty has gone unclaimed and the whole story has faded into obscurity.
We called Metro, just to make sure, and were told, "No one is in custody," meaning the perps are still on the loose (unless they've since been apprehended for another crime and no one put two and two together).
If you recognize either of the people (Metro was unable to tell their gender) in the photographs or footage, call Crime Stoppers at 702/385-5555.
