Question of the Day - 30 October 2009

Q:
Quick question for someone there. Do you know what day of the week the sports book post the lines for the next weekend of college and pro football? Do they have them posted on Monday, Tuesday, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated since we can’t seem to talk to anyone at the casino when we call about this matter.
 Fezzik
A:

Regarding your attempt to contact the sports books, the casinos don’t allow sports books to take incoming phone calls in order to avoid any possible problems with betting by phone over state lines or risking going astray of associated rules. You can sometimes be connected to the office of the sports book director, but they often don’t have time to call customers back.

We gave your question to Fezzik, who responds here.

In Las Vegas, M Resort has become the industry leader in forming and posting the early football lines. The highly respected "M Line" is put up for the next week's NFL and college games on Sunday afternoon. No one else comes close (the LV Hilton also posts lines on Sunday afternoon, but for the NFL only). LeRoy's puts its numbers up late Sunday night, and the rest of the books wait until Monday morning. The M also posts college totals well ahead of the other books, putting them up at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Further, by midweek, the M posts lines on every NFL game to be played the rest of the year! The Hilton posts select NFL lines on 3-5 games per week the rest of the year as well.

Offshore, CRIS and The Greek are fastest out. CRIS, in fact, leads all books anywhere in college totals, posting its numbers on Tuesday afternoon.
