For the answer to this question we went straight to Anthony Curtis, who's been eating chicken fingers in this town for 30 years:
There's a long history of good chicken wing places in town--Elbow Room and Crowbar in the past, Santora's and Johnny Macs currently--but chicken fingers are another story. In most cases, fingers are made of pressed chicken and not much distinguishes one from another. The big exception was the great chicken fingers plate at the Gambler's Grill at Wild Wild West. In the March 1999 LVA we wrote,
"Wild Wild West serves the best chicken fingers in all of Las Vegas -- if not the world. Made from real chicken and served about a half-dozen per order, this is one of those rare meals where the delivering bartender or waitress always says something like, 'The fingers are awesome,' or 'I love these, too.'"
But as the great Gambler's Grill began to lose its luster (it was eventually converted into a Denny's), those chicken fingers became a casualty. I figured there'd never be another like it, so was amazed when I stumbled on the same preparation at, of all places, the British Crown & Anchor bar at 1350 E. Tropicana. In the January 2008 LVA we wrote,
"Crown's chicken fingers are what chicken fingers were meant to be, made from real chicken and shaped like ... fingers. If you miss the fingers that used to be served at Wild Wild West, you'll miss them no more. Crown serves 'em round the clock for $6.75."
Since then, Crown & Anchor 2 has opened at 4755 Spring Mtn. Rd. and it serves the same finger recipe, made fresh when you order. The price has been raised to $7.50, but you can also take advantage of the excellent comp deal at either C&W location. Play $20 in a video poker machine daily from 11 am to 3 pm and get a free lunch. Or play from 3 to 7 pm and get a free appetizer. You can order the chicken fingers under either of these promotions.
