In September, 2007, O.J. Simpson was arrested following an alleged armed break-in at a hotel room at Palace Station involving sports memorabilia that Simpson claimed was his.
In October the following year, the trial took place and, after deliberating for roughly 13 hours, the jury convicted Simpson and co-defendant Clarence "C.J." Stewart on all counts, including two each of robbery with a deadly weapon and first-degree kidnapping with a deadly weapon. In December last year Simpson was sentenced to at least nine years in prison and is currently serving his sentence at the Correctional Center in Lovelock, Nevada.
As to the room where it all went down, we do recall at the time that in the immediate aftermath there were stories that a premium was indeed being charged for staying there, although we confess that we don't remember what the amount was (something in the region of $200+ rings a bell, but don't hold us to it). A call on Friday was greeted by several members of staff with an initial vehement, "He didn't stay here!" response. When we explained that we understood this and just wanted to know how much it was to book the room where the "incident" took place, if available, we were told that the normal Tower rate applies which, on the day we called, was $49.99/night.
