Question of the Day - 07 January 2010

Q:
We have our whole family coming to Vegas next month for a vow renewal. My question is, can you tell me some things to do or go to that our older teenagers might have fun doing? Are there any nightclubs for those under 21?
A:

There have been experiments with clubs and live-music venues for those under 21, but they've mostly been shortlived. While researching this answer, however, we came across a venue called Club 4427, located at 4427 E. Sunset Rd. in Henderson, which is 18+. The phone number's 702/787-0782 and they're open from 11 p.m. or 11:30 p.m every Friday and Saturday, playing Top 40, hip hop, and R&B. Here's a link to their MySpace page. The Joint at the Hard Rock and the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay also sometimes have concerts that permit those 18+ unaccompanied by adults -- call the Box Offices to check (you can find the numbers in our Live Music listings.

While those shows with adult humor are often 21+, as are some of the raunchier stage shows, there are numerous topless revues that allow those aged over 18, including Crazy Girls at the Riviera, MGM Grand's Crazy Horse Paris, Fantasy at Luxor, Flamingo's X Burlesque, Sin City Bad Girls at the Las Vegas Hilton, Bite at the Stratosphere, and Peepshow at Planet Hollywood, the latter four of which all have discounts in the 2010 LasVegasAdvisor Member Rewards Book. For the ladies, Chippendales at the Rio also allows those 18 and older to their show, as does Cirque du Soleil's Zumanity at New York-New York, which has appeal for both genders. Also note that those gentlemen's clubs that don't serve alcohol -- which in Las Vegas means all of the totally nude clubs, aside from the Palomino -- are open to those aged 18+.

Other cool production shows that we'd recommend to older teens include Penn & Teller, Blue Man Group, Carrot Top, and Cirque du Soleil's .

Activity-wise, how about Pole Position Indoor Raceway, for which you'll also find a sizeable discount in the 2010 MRB? Ditto the rollercoaster at New York-New York.

We haven't tried it for ourselves yet, but King Putt black-light indoor mini-golf comes highly recommended by the teenage kids of friends of ours and has locations on the east and west sides of town now. Or how about some late-night "Cosmic Bowling" at one of the Station properties? For an economical and fun daytime diversion, check out the Pinball Hall of Fame, as featured in a recent QoD (1/5/2010). Gameworks is 47,000-square-foot arcade, with over 250 games, while the Sahara's NASCAR Entertainment Center is home to Speed -- The Ride (rollercoaster), Las Vegas Cyber Speedway simulated race-car driving experience, and Pit Pass Arcade, a state-of-the-art arcade packed with 120 player stations.

Las Vegas remains great for shopping -- Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood has plenty of cool brands, including True Religion, Volcom, BCBG, and Urban Outfitters, while the Las Vegas Premium Outlets downtown are a good bet for picking up designer discounts. You can spend hours in the Fashion Show mall (opposite Wynn) and still not see it all.
