Question of the Day - 21 March 2010

Q:
In addition to having fun in Vegas, I have been to many conventions and conferences in Vegas over the years. Between the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Sands Expo Center, the Mandalay Convention Center and all the various hotels on the strip and around town does anyone know how many square feet of convention space there actually are in Vegas?
A:

We do now. Here’s the list of convention centers having 50,000 or more square feet.

1. Las Vegas Convention Center: 3.2 million square feet

2. Sands Expo-Venetian-Palazzo: 2.25 million square feet

3. Mandalay Bay Events Center: 1.8 million square feet

4. Cashman Center: 500,000 square feet (7.75 million)

5. MGM Grand Convention Center: 380,000 square feet

6. Aria: 300,000 square feet

7. Caesars Palace 300,000 square feet

8. Wynn-Encore: 260,000 square feet

9. Las Vegas Hilton: 200,000 square feet

10. Bally’s Las Vegas: 175,000 square feet

11. Mirage: 170,000 square feet

12. Riviera: 160,000 square feet

13. Rio: 160,000 square feet

14. Bellagio: 150,000 square feet.

15. Paris: 140,000 square feet

16. Tropicana Resort: 101,000 square feet

17. Henderson Convention Center: 100,000 square feet.

18. Planet Hollywood: 75,000 square feet

19. Hard Rock Hotel and Casino: 60,000 square feet

20. Flamingo Las Vegas: 51,000 square feet

21. Alexis Park: 50,000 square feet

That all adds up to 10.6 million square feet of convention space, and it doesn’t include, perhaps, another 500,000 to one million square feet in the dozens of hotel-casinos with less than 50,000 square feet, plus the business hotels.

So, call it somewhere between 11 million and 12 million square feet of convention space in Las Vegas.
