Since Question of the Day was first launched in earnest, back in May 2005, no less than thirty-eight akcnowledged contributors have been involved, by our reckoning.
Of these, four are LVA staffers, with Senior Editor Deke Castleman (Whale Hunt in the Desert) and Web-Content Manager Jessica Roe handling the majority of answers between them, as their specialities, predilections, and whims dictate. One of them tends to tackle a slew of questions and then pass the baton on to the other before burnout sets in. This feature can feel relentless at times.
Many readers seem to assume that Anthony Curtis answers every QoD, but he could never possibly find the time in his schedule; however, he does regularly answer gambling questions -- LVA newsletter readers can probably spot his style, although we don't advertise who's at the helm when it's one of us. Stiffs & Georges blogger David McKee also turns his hand to regular QoDing, and his style's even more distinctive, to anyone familiar with his deliciously ascerbic wit.
Other regulars over the years have included Frugal Guru and Queen of Comps Jean Scott, who answered a question very recently; the hilarious Max Rubin (of Comp City fame), video poker maestro Bob Dancer, and Fezzik (see LVASports.com), who'll be contributing a regular sports-betting-oriented QoD for "Fezzik Friday" throughout the duration of football season.
We've been honored by some very prestigious one-off contributions from the likes of Ed Thorp (author of Beat the Dealer, the blackjack book that changed everything) and Fluff Le Coque, long-time company manager of Jubilee!, the only true showgirl spectacular left and the longest-running show in Las Vegas.
From horse-racing experts to cocktail waitresses, poker pros to casino executives, and cops to realtors, we've been fortunate enough to be able to draw on an amazing spectrum of experts over the years in order to address the endlessly diverse questions submitted to the QoD column.
Question of the Day has been running for more than five years now without break, aside from those days when we run a poll or poll results, and we'd like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to all the people who take the time to think up and submit interesting and thought-provoking questions, and to our panel of expert contributors, including those invisible sources behind the scenes who often would prefer not to receive acknowledgement, but without whose knowledge we couldn't have kept this column as diverse, comprehensive, and credible as your input has allowed us to. Thanks to all!
