Question of the Day - 12 October 2010

Q:
Here's Part II of your feedback to the recent Reader Poll regarding your favorite off-Strip restaurants.
A:

Here's the rest of the best of your feedback regarding fave off-Strip restaurants. Don't forget you can find details about all – or most*, at least – of these eateries in our Restaurant listings:

  • "First place to eat when we get off the plane is Blueberry Hill Restaurant for Rumrunners French Toast. Be careful, a couple of them don't carry it."

  • "Del Friscos."

  • We love Shucks Tavern. Shucks is a friendly place serving great seafood, burgers, sandwiches, and seafood pasta 24/7, plus breakfasts in the morning. We try to eat there whenever we visit and have never been disappointed. Love the the pasta with clam sauce, the crabcakes, and the clambake which includes clams, three kinds of crab, red potatoes, and corn on the cob in a huge bowl with a buttery spiced broth. There are two locations: 9338 West Flamingo Road and 7155 North Durango Road."

  • "Sammy's Dog House on Decatur."

  • "Sweet Tomatoes—at least 2 locations in Las Vegas. The BEST salad bar anywhere along with 6 to 8 soups and chili made from scratch; hot bread; fruit; fresh pastas. We eat here at least once on every trip to our favorite vacation spot!"

  • "While we are in Vegas we make sure to rent a car and go to The Original Pancake House  at Green Valley Ranch. It has very good food there and is always very busy. It would be a shame for some travelers to miss it."

  • "Carluccio's Tivoli Gardens restaurant next to Liberace Museum." [Ed: Not for much longer. The museum, that is.]

  • "We’ve found there is no better meal than Lawry’s The Prime Rib on Howard Hughes Parkway. The atmosphere and service is only surpassed by the quality of the food. The wine list is also very good." [Ed: This was a popular choice.]

  • "Gordon Biersch is my choice for favorite place to eat off the Strip. Yahoo!"

  • "We love the frozen custard at Mr. D's (formerly Sheridan's). We think it is the best in Las Vegas." [Ed: We're glad you added the (formerly Sheridan's) bit, because the only Mr D's we're familiar with is a biker bar!]

  • "Morton's Steakhouse on Flamingo."

  • "Casa Don Juan, 1204 S. Main, near Charleston. Very good food, very good prices, very good to locals. I celebrated my last birthday here. The #6 combination is two tacos (chicken or beef), rice and beans, all the chips you can eat for $8.99. Yum. The tortillas are homemade right in front of you, yum again. Let's call it the anti-Strip Mexican restaurant in a colorful part of downtown Las Vegas. I always see families, couples, seniors, artist types, and locals. I highly recommend it for good Mexican food."

  • "Bachi Burger: Great, creative burgers. Excellent sides/appetizers, and neat drinks."

  • "Create a Burger for both their burgers/fries and their custard."

  • "Cappriotti's as off-Strip favorite to eat."

  • "EVERY trip to Las Vegas: Metro Pizza, In-n-Out Burger, Capriotti's."

  • How about BJ's in Henderson on Eastern, Gaetano's on Eastern, and The Boulevard across from South Point?"

  • "El Pollo Loco - Can’t get it at home and that is simply the best fast food joint there is, anywhere."

  • We come out to Las Vegas a couple of times a year. We appreciate good Mexican food but not the El Sombrero atmosphere. I voted for Lindo Michoacán for the food and friendly service but Viva Mercado's is right with themas far as we are concerned."

  • "Black Bear Diner."

  • "How could you omit Memphis Championship BBQ (Warm Springs Rd./Rainbow/Nellis))?! It is always our first stop when we arrive in LV. I would give an honorable mention to Jamms (Rainbow & Charleston), best breakfast in Las Vegas." [Ed: We stand corrected!]
  • "Rae's Restaurant at Wigwam and Pecos. Great specials for all meals. The ribs are excellent, as are their steaks."

  • "The Tillerman. Easy to get to from the Strip. Great food that’s reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere." [Ed: Agreed on all counts. Happy that it's open for lunch again. This is a great old-school Vegas joint.]

  • "I always meet a lot of Chicagoans at BJ’s Brewhouse! Good food, good brew."

  • "My vote is for Khoury's. It's located on Fort Apache between Sunset and Russell in Summerlin. We love going there for the BEST Mediterranean food in town. It always tastes fresh because it is. I have eaten there well over a handful of times and each time I have ordered something different and each time I was ecstatic with what I ordered." [Ed: Wow!]

  • "Benito Michoacan at Decatur and Twain. Absolutely the best of the Michoacans (Viva is also good, Lindo is terrible.)"

  • "Off the Strip - Just Real Food, located in Henderson, is easily our favorite place to go for great food. Send your staff ASAP to do a review and then you will understand. I suggest the Beef Wellington, or try the Around the World appetizer selection (not on the menu) to experience tastiness in every bite. Not only is the food great, but the service is top notch. Thank me later, Jim W. (Mojojim)" [Ed: We can't wait! Anyone called Mojo – like our office Iguana – is good in our book : )]

  • "I can't believe you left off the Egg and I and Egg Works 1 & 2, all owned by same company. We always eat breakfast there during our frequent visits to Las Vegas. We heard about it from a local and that seems to be the majority of the patrons. LOVE your website!!" [Ed: Thanks, and we had to leave off some places, or else y'all wouldn't have had anything to write in about!]

*We don't tend to list chains on our site, and a few of your suggestions we aren't familiar with, but we'll be investigating on your recommendation
