Question of the Day - 27 October 2010

Q:
We really enjoyed the backstage tour of Bally’s Jubilee show using the LVA coupon last year. Do any other shows offer special backstage tours? We are spending 10 days in LV in August and have seen all the shows already. We would like to try more backstage-type activities.
A:

Until recently, we would have had to disappoint you with this answer, since, with one exception, Jubilee! was the only show in town offering back-stage tours. A number of productions, including Donny & Marie and George Wallace at the Flamingo, and Barry Manilow at Paris, offer VIP meet-and-greet tickets for a premium price ($260 for D&M and $75 for George Wallace, while the Barry Manilow "Front Row" package seats can only be bid for online at the ManilowParis.com website, where bidding generally starts at $260 and up.

Prior to a recent announcement, the only other show aside from Jubilee! offering actual backstage tours was Phantom: The Las Vegas Experience at Venetian, which offers the "Phantom VIP Experience" Tuesday through Friday. This consists of a limited number of tickets available for $250 each, which include a backstage tour of the custom-built Phantom Theatre, a private meet-and-greet with cast members, and premium seating in the VIP Golden Circle section of the Orchestra. These tickets can't be booked online; call 702/414-9000 or visit the Phantom Box Office in person to order.

However, not long after we received your submission to QoD came word from Cirque du Soleil about the introduction of new Insider Access tickets for The Beatles LOVE at The Mirage and O at Bellagio, both of which give you the chance to hear the history of the show’s production, get a peek behind the scenes, and receive a special Insider Access VIP lanyard, plus a special limited edition goodie bag of Cirque du Soleil merchandise. The tickets, which are $260 per person for either show, also include special reserved seating and front-of-line concession passes. After the performances, guests of The Beatles LOVE receive VIP passes for Jet Nightclub at Mirage and O guests get the same for the Bank at Bellagio.

Previously, random free behind-the-scenes tours have been offered for Cirque's and Mystère productions, but the last we heard of these was back in 2009 (see QoD 7/19/2009).
