Question of the Day - 02 March 2011

Q:
What happened to "Vegas Week" on the Travel Channel?
A:

For those who don't recall, "Vegas Week" was a regular feature on the Travel Channel in the early to mid-2000s, featuring a whole raft of Las Vegas-themed shows, including "Las Vegas Dos and Don'ts," "Vegas FAQ," "Vegas Urban Legends," "Top Ten Las Vegas Pools," "Las Vegas: Gambling with the Pros," "Las Vegas: Sucker Bets," and so on. Many of the programs feature Anthony Curtis and Huntington Press authors, including Max Rubin, Mike Shackleford, Jean Scott, and Bob Dancer.

Until a few years ago, we ran a weekly feature on the LVA website called "Vegas TV," where we'd list a day-by-day television guide that featured every Vegas-oriented movie, documentary, poker show etc. that we could find, but it was an extremely onerous job putting it together, especially when our primary source of information changed its design to make searching increasingly laborious, and frequently didn't work at all. So, with regret we had to drop the feature, which means that we no longer monitor when Travel Channel's Vegas shows are airing. Travel Channel also evidently felt that the shows were getting a little old and stale and some years back stopped running them as intensely and regularly as they had in the past.

That said, they do still feature Las Vegas weekend marathons from time-to-time, including as recently as last month. We weren't aware of it until after the fact, but we noticed a huge spike in visitation to our website and to ShopLVA.com, and when we investigated, sure enough Anthony had been all over TV that weekend.

Recently, more shows have been added to Travel Channel's Vegas roster, including "21 Vegas Sinful Hotspots" and episodes of "Man vs. Food" and "Ghost Adventures." Since we no longer monitor their schedule, the best we can suggest is that you check out their Week at a Glance feature to see what's coming up.

Update 02 March 2011
A reader writes: "One way to find Vegas related shows for those who have DVRs is to simply search for "Las Vegas" which will find all shows on their cable schedule that feature Las Vegas-related content." [Ed: Yes, this is true!]
