Question of the Day - 24 April 2011

Q:
Are there any reasonable-sized casinos that still have coin-in machines? I understand it's cheaper to have TITO machines and the supposed benefits, but there's nothing like the clink of the coins and the feel of them in your hands. Yup, dirty hands, but it's just more fun!
A:

From the Reader Poll we ran on this subject back in 2009, we know this is a polarizing topic that tends to see people either totally pro or totally anti the new TITO machines (with more than two thirds in the "love 'em" camp).

For all of those others of you out there who miss the ca-ching, ca-ching of the coins dropping into the tray, we have good news.

We revisited the results of our previous research and found that all of the venues that had coin-in (or, in a couple of cases, coin-out) machines the last time we checked still have them, although some have reduced their inventory. We also found a couple more places to add to the list. Note that in most instances, only video poker is available, although a few casinos (e.g., Circus Circus, Casino Royale, and the Western) still have some coin-in slots and the Silverton has a handful of old video keno machines (these are among the examples of machines that don't accept coins, but pay out in them). Eastside Cannery even has a dedicated "Classic Slot Room" in the casino that features nothing but popular vintage coin-in slot and video poker machines.

Here's a link to a list of all the casinos we know of with machines that pay out in coins; if anyone knows of any others we've missed, please drop us a line. The majority are off-Strip and downtown, where you could indulge in a coin-in crawl!
