Question of the Day - 05 May 2011

Q:
In 2003 we went to an afternoon show in the "igloo" outside of Lady Luck Casino. It was an awesome variety show called The Walkers. I believe it was a woman and her 2 or 3 brothers. Similar to the Scintas show. We met them after the show and were very surprised to learn that they were from our hometown of Butler, PA. In 2004 we returned to take friends to see this fun show and it was gone. We asked at the front desk, the concierge, and even the valets, and nobody had ever heard of them! We couldn't believe that not one employee remembered them or their great show. Do you know or could you find out what ever happed to The Walkers? Thank you in advance for researching our question. We really appreciate your time and trouble.
A:

No problem, as this turned out to be a pretty simple one, thanks to Pastor Bill Walker's website, from which we quote:

"Pastor Bill was born and raised outside of Tarentum, PA. In 1972, Bill teamed with his brother, Greg, and sister, Kathy to form 'The Walkers,' a musical comedy act featuring celebrity impressions. Honing the act in Pittsburgh area nightclubs, The Walkers made their first Las Vegas appearance with The Mickey Finn Show at the Landmark Hotel in 1974. In 1977, Bill, Kathy, and Greg Walker were signed by Rocky Sennes to star in his Variety review at the Holiday Casino, center Strip, which later became Harrah's. During their eleven-year run there, the family act made repeated national television appearances on 'Merv Griffin,' 'Mike Douglas,' 'The Joan Rivers Show,' 'The Jerry Lewis Telethon,' and various cable comedy shows."

According to the website, this was followed by a stint in Legends in Concert at the Imperial Palace in 1988, after which the family took their show across the country on the convention circuit. They performed concerts in Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Europe, and Australia, not to mention cruise-ships. The group's final long-running engagement was Robby Howard's Stars of The Strip, the show you recall at the Lady Luck.

At some point after the Lady Luck gig, it appears that Bill Walker gave up showbiz for the ministry, founding the Four Seasons non-denominational Christian Fellowship which, as far as we know, is now located at 2890 South Durango, #103. The site says there's a Sunday service weekly at 11 a.m., and a recorded message gave details of an event on May 6, so we think it's an ongoing concern, although the only event listed on the site is Christmas Eve, and phone messages we left and emails we sent asking for additional information went unanswered, so we can't say for sure.

As to the other two siblings, Kathy Walker-Koch still resides in Las Vegas, as far as we could tell, but we found no record of her performing any longer. From 2004 brother Greg Walker entertained as Elvis in the Dealertainer Pit at Imperial Palace. He passed away in January, 2009.
