Question of the Day - 09 May 2011

Q:
A recent QoD mentioned in its answer that Legends In Concert was playing at the Imperial Palace in 1988. My question is, has it been playing there continuously since 1988, or before? And maybe some history on the show?
A:

Legends in Concert is a tribute show, featuring live band and no lip-synching, that first opened in 1983 at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas. What was intended as a six-week limited engagement expanded into a 26-year residency, before the show moved to Harrah's, where it opened on February 23rd, 2009 and continues to play today, making it the second-longest running show in the city, after Jubilee! at Bally's. There's a twofer in the 2011 MRB.

Success in Las Vegas led to new shows opening in other locations, including being the first Vegas show to appear on Broadway, in 1989, and numerous international tours to destinations including Africa, Australia, and China. You can currently catch Legends at Myrtle Beach, SC; Branson, MO; Foxwoods Resort-Casino; and Bally's Atlantic City. Plus, there's a touring production performing at the Imperial Palace, Biloxi, in July, or you can catch the show on the Norwegian Epic cruise liner.

The cast of performers rotates from week to week. The Las Vegas Box Office informed us that this week you can catch Liberace, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg, and Britney Spears; last week Marilyn Monroe was in for Britney.
