As we wrote about in Today's News last weekend, plans for a Las Vegas airline don't seem too promising.
It was first announced back in mid-April that a Las Vegas-based start-up air carrier had plans to lease 767 jets and offer direct service to Las Vegas from Palm Beach International Airport, with anticipated non-stop flights from JFK and airports in Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia.
Since that story broke, however, the LV Review-Journal has reported that Eneliko Smith, the man behind LV Air, has a long history of failed projects and related legal problems, which makes his Las Vegas plan sound unlikely to come to fruition.
From a little Googling of our own, we found evidence of numerous complaints against Mr Smith, ranging from Nicky Hilton claiming back in 2006 that he tried to steal the name of a hotel chain she planned to open, to a 2009 complaint from a former CFO of another Smith enterprise, a proposed resort in Samoa, outlining various criticisms, including Smith's arrest over tax evasion allegations and accusations that Smith had asked him to falsely notarize documents, among other things.
We didn't find any evidence of Eneliko Smith ever having brought any project to completion, so we're definitely not holding our breath on this one. Sorry.
