Question of the Day - 10 July 2011

Q:
You have two amazing-looking poker books just out-Decide to Play Great Poker by Annie Duke and The Raiser's Edge by Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier. I'm sure they both live up to billing, but why did Annie have a half-dozen book signings in conjunction with the World Series of Poker while ElkY had none?
A:

Fact is, ElkY has been too busy playing. Whereas Annie didn't play a single event in this year's WSOP (she's gearing up for the launch of her new pro-poker league, Epic), ElkY played almost 30, winning his first gold bracelet along the way. But never fear, ElkY is signing at the Rio-today!

He'll be at the Gambler's Book Club booth at 11 a.m. and it looks like it will be a happening. ElkY's something of a rock star in the poker world and people have reportedly been asking all week when he'd show up to sign. But while the event was set for today, ElkY was told it was yesterday and showed up then. It didn't matter; people lined up for autographs and photos as soon as they saw him. He plays his first round of the Main Event at noon, but still agreed to come back for today's scheduled signing. We hope to see you there.

Note: We figure even non-poker enthusiasts are familiar with Annie Duke's name, if only for her lengthy run on "Celebrity Apprentice." But while ElkY is indeed a rockstar in Europe and elite poker circles, he's still unknown to many. After his performance at this year's WSOP, we can't see that persisting for much longer, but in the meantime we're re-running an earlier Spotlight we featured for anyone who's curious in knowing more about this French poker phenom.
