Question of the Day - 18 August 2011

Q:
In the old TV show Vega$, where was Dan Tanna’s home and what type of building was it, as he seemed to park his car in the living room?
A:

The current writer is a Brit. and confesses to never having seen a single episode of "Vega$" (gasp!), but I do know that it was a TV series produced by Aaron Spelling that aired on ABC between 1978 and '81 and starred the late Robert Urich as P.I. Dan Tanna.

With the exception of some special episodes set in Hawaii and San Francisco, "Vega$" was filmed in its entirety in Las Vegas and, according to Wikipedia, Tanna lived on the Strip next to Circus Circus "in a theatrical props warehouse owned by the Desert Inn Hotel and Country Club, which he converted into his living place." As you recall, "The design of Tanna's pad (long before the popularity of loft space) allowed him to park his T-bird in his living room." How cool is that?!

The building used for Tanna's house no longer exists and was replaced first by a shopping center, which included an Arby's and the Guinness World Records museum. The site is now home to the Sky Las Vegas condo tower (as far as we can tell).

In the course of this research, however, we came across a website whose owner had taken a number of snapshots of the still extant Tanna house, back in 1984, so here's a link for anyone wanting another trip down memory lane.
