Tomorrow! Yes, as promised in the Question of the Day that ran on August 5, this Saturday and Sunday, in place of running new Q&As, we will open up the QoD archives to all, not just LVA members. While we hope that those of you who are not currently subcribers will enjoy the rare opportunity to peruse QoDs past, we also have a self-serving motive for this largesse, albeit a request for help that is in the interests of all.
For anyone who missed that 8/5/11 QoD a) you can now read it tomorrow! and b) once you have, you'll understand that we took that opportunity to appeal to long-time readers who happen to have previous QoDs printed out, or saved on their computer in some format or other, to help us fix a problem.
To make a long story short, awhile back our QoD database suffered a SQL attack and a number of answers were truncated. Some we had saved on file, some we could fix from memory, but others, which had entailed extensive research, were lost in the ether.
Our long-term plan of opening up the archives permanently remains in place, but we'd like to get as many of the damaged answers fixed as possible before we do. So, if during the course of this weekend you find one that trails off in mid-sentence, please be kind enough to drop us a line and let us know the date of that answer; even better, if you find one that you have in your possession that's still busted on our site, then we'd be uber-appreciative if you'd email/fax/attach the answer to a carrier pigeon and we'll make sure we restore it.
A few of you have already responded to our cry for help, for which we're most grateful. We'll wait until after this weekend and then go in and fix as many as you're able to help us with all in one go.
Thanks again in advance and in the meantime, enjoy perusing QoD archives">the wealth of information that's accumulated over the past five-plus years since we've been running the Question of the Day feature, the vast majority of which is still intact.
