Question of the Day - 26 August 2011

Q:
I'll be in Las Vegas in a couple of weeks for my annual visit. While I will certainly not be tied to a laptop, I may need to refer to it for a couple of minutes to check on an important matter. My question, are there Wi-Fi hot spots in all hotels (I'll be staying at the Rio)?
A:

Free Wi-Fi hotspots continue to pop up all over town, but are more likely to be found in neighborhood bars than in the major Strip hotels, which still tend to charge for the privilege of Internet access, whether "hidden" as part of a nightly resort fee, or priced as a separate room charge.

That said, however, many of the larger properties have at least one area where you can take advantage of free Wi-Fi although to our knowledge, the Rio is not one of them; still, the Palms across the street has a free Wi-Fi hotspot, as do The Cosmopolitan, Caesars Palace, New York-New York, Wynn, Palazzo, and Paris on the Strip. Several of the nicer pools around town also give you the opportunity to log on while you lounge -- see our Cool Pools feature for details.

For a full list of all the hotels, casinos, bars, restaurants, and other venues around Las Vegas where you can hook up your laptop for free, see our ever-growing list of Free Wi-Fi Hotspots in the "Visitor Guide" section.

A reader adds: "FYI: We stayed at the Rio in March. Their new Burger King Bar had free Wi-Fi."
