Question of the Day - 09 November 2011

Q:
Are there any indoor pools open to the public? I realize that for most of the year, outdoor pools are usable (especially the heated ones), never the less I like to exercise by swimming laps and that is not possible during the winter. I am aware of a few casino spas (e.g., Red Rock) that permit non-hotel guests to use their lap pool for a fee, but that list seems to frequently change.
A:

In a word, no. Since the remodel of the Tropicana this year saw the demise of its well-known indoor/outdoor pool, this leaves only one indoor hotel pool in Las Vegas, namely at the non-smoking, non-gaming Platinum property on E. Flamingo. It's open year-round, but to hotel guests only, unless you book a treatment in their spa, in which case you can also use the pool and the fitness center. This is the case at many hotel spas, as you point out (we love Aque Sulis at the J.W. Marriott in Summerlin) but Platinum's the only one with an indoor pool.

If you're feeling adventurous and arent' afraid to hang with us locals, you can check out the Dessert Breeze indoor pool (located on Spring Mtn. just east of Durango), which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. Adult admission to the pool is $3. Call 702/455-7798 or visit the website at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov/parks for up-to-date information about schedules and activities at this pool and others in the valley.

Click here for our complete listings of Las Vegas Hotel Pools, including those that are heated year-round (and, where available, to what temperature); for information on which of these are open to non-guests for a fee, see our Cool Pools feature.
