Question of the Day - 27 December 2011

Q:
Will the casinos have anything special planned for Chinese New Year ?
A:

2012 is the Chinese Year of the Dragon, with the new lunar cycle commencing January 27 this year. The Year of the Dragon is the most auspicious year in the Chinese zodiac so you can certainly expect Las Vegas, which always pushes out the boat (or should that be the junk?) for its Asian guests during this celebration and is already showing signs of upping the ante for the next Lunar Cycle.

While it's a little premature to know what all the resorts taking part will do, with the Christmas holiday only just behind us, we will be compiling our annual feature in Spotlight, which will go live soon and will continue to be updated as more events are announced. In the meantime, we can already confirm the following:

The Colosseum at Caesars hosts an exclusive live concert by Chinese "Mandopop" star Wakin Chau on January 28 and 29 at 8 p.m., with tickets starting at $48. Lion Dances will also be taking place at Harrah's, IP, Flamingo, and Rio on Jan. 27 and the following day at Planet Hollywood, Paris, Bally's, and Caesars. Check our listings nearer the time for more details.

Also already announced are Venetian/Palazzo's plans, which include 100-percent, feng shui-approved oriental sanctuary, featuring a 128-foot dragon that will breathe fire spanning over the entire Palazzo atrium beginning January 15. The properties will also feature special menus and traditionally also host Lion Dances, although no additional details have been announced as yet. Stay tuned!
