Question of the Day - 17 January 2012

Q:
I noticed that the slots at the airport have card readers on them, like the ones in the casino for your MLife/Total Rewards/etc., and was curious if they were there for a certain card or if they were just pre-installed on them to begin with and didn’t work for anything?
A:

The latter. The 1,300-or-so slots at McCarran International Airport are operated by Michael J. Gaughan, Airport Slot Concession, Inc., owned by South Point owner Michael Gaughan. A call to the players club at the south-of-Strip casino confirmed that the airport slots are not part of the casino’s player loyalty program, however, nor are they part of any separate reward system.

Update 18 January 2012
A reader writes: "The slots are also for the slot attendants that work there. They all have a card that they put into the machine that reads the information as to who opened the door to the slot machine!"
