I noticed that the slots at the airport have card readers on them, like the ones in the casino for your MLife/Total Rewards/etc., and was curious if they were there for a certain card or if they were just pre-installed on them to begin with and didn’t work for anything?

The latter. The 1,300-or-so slots at McCarran International Airport are operated by Michael J. Gaughan, Airport Slot Concession, Inc., owned by South Point owner Michael Gaughan. A call to the players club at the south-of-Strip casino confirmed that the airport slots are not part of the casino’s player loyalty program, however, nor are they part of any separate reward system.

"The slots are also for the slot attendants that work there. They all have a card that they put into the machine that reads the information as to who opened the door to the slot machine!"
