Question of the Day - 23 January 2012

Q:
One morning last week during a stay at the Wynn, my wife went jogging while I went for a walk. She ran around the outside of the Wynn property including the golf course three times. I walked from the Wynn down to Mandalay Bay and back. She, of course, went faster but who went farther?
A:

Wynn Resorts spokeswomen were asked (repeatedly) for an answer to your query but were completely unresponsive. Some tinkering with satellite photos and Google measurement software, however, produced an approximate circumference for Wynn Las Vegas, Encore and the former Desert Inn golf course of 2.5 miles. Which means your tireless wife ran 7.5 miles, if she circled the whole Wynn enchilada three times.

As for your walk, it’s 2.9 miles from the northern edge of Wynncore to the front door of Mandalay Bay, meaning your perambulation covered "only" 5.8 miles. So we guess your wife has to get props for distance and speed. Whatever the case, we applaud your athletic enterprise, especially in an era when so many able-bodied people parade up and down the Strip in wheelchair-like scooters. They’re not going to keep the pounds off that way.
