Question of the Day - 10 February 2012

Q:
What's happening to the massive old Hilton marquee sign, now that the name has changed?
A:

The name came down immediately, as scheduled, on Jan. 3, when the former Las Vegas Hilton officially lost its franchise and changed to the LVH.

The actual marquee still stands, and will have the new name affixed soon. What will happen to the old name, no one was sure, so we put in a call to the Neon Museum downtown to see if they were in line to get it. The director explained that they'd love to have the sign, but so far have heard "not a murmur" from the newly renamed LVH, and fear it may have been scrapped. Right now, the museum is far more concerned with saving the iconic Blue Angel, Paradise, and Vegas Motel signs downtown, whose respective properties are all being demolished to make way for the expansion of the downtown Arts District.

While on the phone, we took the opportunity to inquire if the Neon Museum is still on schedule to open this year and were assured that yes, it should be open this summer, although they are a little behind schedule. Any grand opening party will likely take place in the fall, since the majority of the museum is outdoors, and it'll be too darn hot for a party if it's ready when they think it will be.
