Question of the Day - 16 February 2012

Q:
I heard there is a secret or unmarked restaurant inside the Jaleo at the Cosmo. Is this true, and if so how does one go about getting a reservation there?
A:

Yes, it's true. "é" is a small single room in the back of Jaleo, Cosmopolitan’s upscale tapas restaurant (one of the "Essential 50" in Eating Las Vegas.

The cuisine is created utilizing a mind-boggling collection of scientific methods that tend to be known as molecular gastronomy, but which Andrés (who owns the restaurant and pioneered many of the methods) calls "Spanish avant garde".

The highly exclusive and intimate restaurant seats up to a maximum of eight people only at what resembles a blackjack table. Two to three chefs work across the table from the guests, preparing a 15- to 20-course meal. The food will cost you $160 per person, with a beverage pairing available for an additional $105. Reservations are available up to 30 days in advance, by email only. Send a request to [email protected].

This hidden eatery is not to be confused with Cosmo's "secret pizzeria," the nameless, signless pizza joint that doesn't have a menu, either, but whose pizza we can vouch for as being outstanding (and, at $3 for a slice of cheeze pizza, pretty reasonably priced). It's been "found" and enjoyed by stars including Justin Bieber and girlfriend Selena Gomez.

So how do you find it? Go to the third floor and look for Blue Ribbon Sushi. To the right, you’ll see an opening to a hallway lined with record jackets from classic Italian crooners. Follow Sergio Franchi, Connie Francis, the Conti Family, Anna Maria Alberghetti, Phyllis McGuire, Dean Martin, and, of course, Frank Sinatra to the end of the hallway and you’re there. It’s open from 11 a.m to 3 a.m. daily.
