Question of the Day - 20 March 2012

Q:
I am currently out here for a Red Flag exercise, and my wife and I discovered that we were eligible for a military discount for tickets to the Australian Bee Gees show at the Excalibur. We were both wondering, what other military discounts are available on the Strip?
A:

While occasions like Memorial Day and Veterans Day are celebrated with lots of discounts for active and former members of the Armed Forces, there are plenty Las Vegas shows and businesses that offer year-round discounts to the military, although often these are not that well advertised. Our advice would be to follow Jean Scott's adage that if you don't ask, you don't get, so it's always worth inquiring before you book a room, show, or even a dinner reservation, whether or not a military discount is available. The following does not pretend to be an exhaustive list, but should give you a good idea of the kinds of deals available.

Blue Man Group, Fantasy, Carrot Top, Anthony Cools, Frank Marino's Divas Las Vegas, Human Nature, Legends in Concert, Vinnie Favorito, Chippendales, and all Cirque du Soleil shows are among those offering ongoing discounts to the military. Some shows, including George Wallace and Nathan Burton Comedy Magic, offer free tix to the military (two per show, and one per show, respectively). You can find details for all these and more in our Production Show listings.

Note that a number of these deals are available only for in-person bookings at the box office, so call ahead to be clear on the conditions before you book anything online or over the phone. All discounts require valid government ID to be presented when the tickets are collected.

Other venues around town also offer military discounts, including the Mob Attraction at the Tropicana, Erotic Heritage Museum, Chuck Jones Experience, and Las Vegas Springs Preserve, to name a few. Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill at Harrah's offers a free burger and fries to all active members of the military with valid ID, too.

Several gentlemen's clubs offer deals, including Sapphire, which has a 25%-off discount on all packages offered through SapphireLasVegas.com. To qualify, email proof of active military status to [email protected] prior to booking online and mention the package you're interested in. Once your active status is confirmed, their VIP coordinator will help book your reservation.

In addition to show and other entertainment offers, military personnel can receive discounted room rates at certain properties, including Luxor, Stratosphere, Circus Circus, Tropicana, and Venetian/Palazzo, so make sure to inquire before making a booking.
