For those who don't know, Carlos'n Charlie's (sic.) is a party-loving Mexican chain (from the same people behind Señor Frog’s) founded in Acapulco in 1970. The popular eatery now has 11 locations south of the border and in 1994 opened its first venue in the U.S.
Last July, it was announced that Carlos'n Charlie's would be debuting in Las Vegas at the Flamingo (or "Little Mexico" as we'll need to start referring to it soon), but opening-date details were sketchy. And so they remained right up until the last minute, with the Flamingo website simultaneously stating that the "restaurant and bar will make its debut later this winter" (i.e., 2011), that it would open "early 2012", and that it's "Coming Soon!"
A call (actually, it took four attempts to get through to a human) placed on Tuesday this week revealed that confusion still reigned, with the concierge relating that people were already lining up outside Carlos'n Charlie's in the mistaken belief that the joint was open; the best she could offer was an unconfirmed rumor that it was still on track to open April 25. (A press release we received Tuesday, touting the debut of Flamingo's new Center Cut steakhouse, still referred to Carlos'n Charlie's as something that was "set to open this spring.")
However, we placed a call Wednesday and received confirmation that the Flamingo's new party destination is indeed open for business (despite the website still proclaiming "Coming Soon!" the last time we checked), serving food, cocktails, and a daily dose of craziness from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. It's located adjacent to the race and sports book and features an outdoor terrace overlooking the pool and gardens.
