The last time we conducted a *Reader Poll on this subject was back in January, 2010, but we figure the results still hold pretty true.
When we asked back then, of the almost 14,000 respondents, nearly 700, or 5%, said they always stayed on the Strip. 2% of voters in our poll said they always stay downtown, while another 2% (238 people) stated that they stay "off-Strip." However, when we just added up all the individual votes for the "locals" casino-hotels that we listed as specific options, 11.3% of people voted for a Station, Boyd, or independent property (the Orleans got the biggest single "locals" vote, with 486 people opting to stay there, whiel South Point was the next-most popular option, with 205 votes.
617 other people (4%) were not committed to any particular property, but rather "stay wherever I can get the best deal."
For an alternate source of statistics, we checked out the LVCVA's Vegas Visitor Profile for 2011, which revealed that 76% of those 3,593 people questioned stayed on the "Strip corridor," 6% stayed downtown, 4% stayed on the Boulder Strip, 12% were in "outlying areas," and another 2% stayed elsewhere.
So, whether you compare yourself to a typical LVA reader, or to an average Las Vegas visitor, you are still in the minority, although far from alone.
