Question of the Day - 21 July 2012

Q:
Usually when my wife and I go to Vegas its for shows but I thought maybe we could spend a day catching up on the latest movies. Do any of the casinos on the Strip have movie theaters in them?
A:

There are no movie theaters on the Strip proper, but you will find state-of-the-art facilities at South Point, further south on Las Vegas Boulevard, which is home to XD "Extreme Digital Cinema" and often has midnight screenings of new blockbusters.

If you don't mind venturing just a little way off-Strip, you'll also find a multi-screen and IMAX cinema complex at the Palms' Brendon Theaters.

Elsewhere around the valley, you'll find that many of the "locals" casinos carry movie theaters, including the majority of Station and Boyd properties, plus there are a number of non-casino cinema complexes.

For something a little different, check out the West-Wind Drive-In at the corner of Rancho and Carey, or catch recent/old movies -- and 3-D titles -- for cheap at Tropicana Cinemas (3330 E. Tropicana at Pecos).

You'll find complete listings and website links in the "Movies" section of our Visitor Guide.

Update 21 July 2012
Oops, as more than a few of you wrote in to remind us, there is a cinema complex on the Strip, which we totally forgot about: "Is the United Artists Showcase 8 behind MGM Grand gone? [Ed: No!] That is (or WAS) on the Strip. And how about Rave Motion Pictures behind Town Square? Those theaters are a lot closer than driving all the way to South Point." [Ed: Rave is still there and yes, maybe is a little closer than South Point. We stand corrected!]
