Question of the Day - 17 August 2012

Q:
I've been looking into staying at South Point while on vacation in October, but I have not been able to find out if they charge a daily resort fee. Do you know if they do, and if so, what the daily fee is?
A:

The short answer is no, South Point does not charge a nightly resort fee.

The longer answer is that we're familiar with the person who sent in this question and know him to be a regular QoD submitter and visitor to our website, so the fact that he was unable to ascertain this information easily without our help, even though we have a comprehensive area on our site listing all hotel resort fees and what they cover, is further proof that we're long overdue for the redesign we're currently immersed in.

As many of you will have noticed, we've been polling for specific input from our readers over the past couple of months, while simultaneously studying other sites for inspiration, and generally accumulating feedback on how to improve our online visitors' experience. One thing we do not lack is thoughtful, authoritative, comprehensive, and up-to-date content. We are well aware, however, that the current lasvegasadvisor.com site is not that easy to navigate, nor is finding all the information contained therein a particularly intuitive process.

The latter in large part is due to the fact that there's just so much darned information presented (some 6,000 pages, not counting the forums) and, more significantly, our site was originally designed well over a decade ago by people who didn't anticipate how the Web would grow and keep reinventing itself. Hence, we've effectively been stuck with a skeleton that wasn't built to carry as much flesh as we've kept piling on, with menus of sub-menus, and so on, that can make you feel like Alice jumping down the rabbit hole when you embark on a quest to find something like upcoming convention attendance stats (yup, we list 'em, but evidentally many of you can't find), or pet-friendly hotels (ditto), or city maps. We'd wager on the fact that many of you had no clue you could find information about childcare, or First Aid, or tipping etiquette, or radio stations, or which restaurants are open for lunch. Not for long will it be thus!

Our aim now is to keep adding to the former strength information-wise, while greatly enhancing the presentation and its overall logic, so that you can find exactly what you're looking for -- not to mention things you wanted but didn't know were available, or that you didn't even know you wanted but will be happy to find -- without having to jump through hoops. It's a massive undertaking that will be accomplished in at least two, if not more stages, with a tentative launch date for Phase I scheduled for late this fall. In the meantime, we will almost certainly be calling on you for additional input and ideas and we'll keep you posted of progress. Watch this space!

Back to the resort-fee-less South Point, this is absolutely a resort we endorse as a good place to stay. Rates are low, restaurants are reasonable, and games are good. If you're there in October, be sure to catch Bob Dancer's free video poker classes presented on Tuesdays starting at noon, commencing September 18. Then ply what you learn at the excellent video poker inventory you'll find there.
