Q:
Will you be printing some of the interesting and humorous feedback you mentioned from the last poll regarding the Imperial Palace name change to The Quad?
A:
Yes -- right here, and right now!
Our apologies that the reader-feedback part of the survey didn't run with the original poll results, but it all dates back to our temporary technical meltdown. You're not the only person who wrote in requesting to read some of the more amusing or insightful email responses we received in answer to our poll on the Imperial Palace's name change. So here, better late than never, is a selection of your observations on "The Quad."
- "The new name for the Imperial Palace reminds me of my quadruple bypass heart surgery.........YUCK!!!
- "'The Quad' sounds like that square, grassy area between dormitories on my old college campus. There, we rolled in the mud, made snowmen, threw frisbees, played touch football, etc. Doesn't evoke pictures, in my mind, of any place I'd want to spend my time or money while on vacation. Not classy, I think it's a poor choice."
- "Do they realize that it is a name of a drink order in Starbucks, The Quad Espresso, 4 hots of espresso, sounds better in Starbucks than for a casino. I am thinking they are just saving on the signage."
- "I actually like Imperial Palace, think they should have kept the name and just re did the place à la Tropicana."
- "When you look at the old casino names – Sahara, Dunes, Sands, Monte Carlo, Riviera, Aladdin – they conjured up a vision of an exotic destination, and they were synonymous with ‘going to Vegas, Baby!’ The D, LVH, SLS Las Vegas, Encore, The Quad, M, Aria: these names all represent a move toward modern blah, generic experiences; casino hotels with these names could be anywhere in the world."
- "The Quad brings up two things for me:
1. College: the area central to the campus. It makes me think this will be a college, spring-break place - wild, drunken, younger crowd... No thanks.
2. Exercise/muscles ... quadriceps... so some kind of fitness idea... but for a hotel?"
- "I assume the name 'Quad' was chosen because of the four towers of the hotel? (We always stayed in Tower 4, because it was quiet). We’ve been staying there since the '80s and have grown fond of the old place, but it really does need modernization and to lose the oriental theme. We look forward to the revitalization."
- "Common name for a 4-wheel drive off-duty ATV. I do not like it as a casino name."
- "Caesars Entertainment renaming the IP as The Quad just serves as another example of Las Vegas shifting its focus away from the gaming market and to the young-adult party market. Caesars officials said they want the name to reflect a place that is the center of activity, much like the quad on a college campus. Nothing wrong with it, I guess, but how about a keeping a few casinos where the emphasis is on providing good games, with excellent services in a comfortable setting for those of us past our college years?"
- "I never enjoyed the Imperial Palace (it was neither "Imperial" nor a "Palace"). I could care less what they call it, as long as they find a way to improve the overall experience."
